So I’ve got a little insight to share with you today.
Do you ever read or see something that reaffirms your thoughts and feelings, giving you the PUSH you need to get over the edge? Whatever those thoughts may be, from professional, to friends/family relationships, to healthy and well-being. Well, I am reading that very thing right now.
“Why Now Is The Time To Crush It!” is perhaps one of the most influential books I’ve read in awhile.
Recently, my professor I’m working with for some side consulting this summer lent me the book to read. The book is written by Gary Vaynerchuk, an iconic example of “making it in America”. His family immigrated to America from Belarus, in the former Soviet Union, with no money and no foundation. Through hardwork, passion, and dedication, Gary created one of the most dominate personal brands in social media.
I’m not even finished with the book and I’m already completely inspired by him. He preaches his theory that by combining your passion with business, you’ll go so much farther than you ever would sticking to a dead-end job.
In the beginning of his book he lays out three simple rules to live by:
1. Love your family.
2. Work superhard.
3. Live your passion.
When most of us look at that we’d say “Yeah, I do that now”. But do we really? I mean I thought I was but these past couple months after really taking a look at my passions in life and following those, I’m already so much happier. I know where I want to be in my future and where I want to go. Gary states, “If you don’t plan ahead and decide where you want to go, you’re in big trouble.”
Most of this book is geared toward using social media to create a personal brand image and grow your passion. Of course this appeals to the nerdy Marketer in me. Yet, he is so right. Nowadays there’s no turning back from social media so why not harness it to discover more about what you love. For me, you guys already know that’s nutrition, wellness, fitness, social-media, marketing and the great outdoors. Get involved and get active. Resumes will soon become obsolete and it’s how you portray yourself via the internet that will matter to employers.
I’ve wanted to write a post for awhile about how important it is for college students to not “take the summer off”. I mean yeah, enjoy the sun, the bonfires, the beach & boating time, but take this break from classes to really focus in on your interests. What could you talk about for hours on end? Where do your passions lie and what makes you smile? Answer these questions and learn how to grow that passion into a path for your future. However, not only to college students, but to everyone. Those of you dragging to go to work each day or looking for a job in the same industry of the last one you hated, find what makes you happy and do that!
I don’t want to be unhappy with the job I find post-graduation. I want to live my life to the fullest including my “work”. That’s why I’m so driven to follow my passions and DO WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY. I’m not gonna settle and neither should anyone in today’s society with the endless possibilities.
I’m really not here to lecture and certainly don’t want this to turn into one because I could go on forever about this book. (Blurbin’ away again!) Simply, READ THE BOOK. You’ll become so inspired to light that candle inside you and find your “glow”.
On that note, I’m off to get my work grind in and gain more experience for that future of mine! Time to CRUSH IT people!!
